At AJK we believe in giving back to our local community, and one of our passion projects involves working with St Vincent de Paul Catholic School. We spent the summer working in conjunction with Elevate by Design to construct an Outdoor Learning Lab on the campus.
The concept behind the outdoor classroom is to awaken children to the natural world around them that is often overlooked in modern-day education. Now with the Outdoor Learning Lab we can provide children with a hands-on scientific learning experience about living sustainably and caring for the earth; utilizing everything from raising chickens to growing hydroponic vegetables.
When finished, our project will include a greenhouse, chicken coop, elevated garden beds, a weather station and butterfly garden and will be a benefit to students and teachers in all grades.
